Autumn layering

Hi lovelies,

Autumn is here, and with it comes cooler air, comfort meals and fashion layering. I am a summer creature by nature and enjoy the outdoors, the sea air and picnics with the family. We have been lucky to still have some warm weather, but occasionally the odd Autumn day creeps up on you.

This week has been much better for me, my firstborn is back home and the holidays have been enjoyable with a few birthday celebrations. My world is spinning on an even axis again and I feel more grounded. It’s funny how a missing family member creates such a void in the home and in your daily life, that everything feels off kilter. And whilst he may have had a fantastic time touring Holland and Belgium, one can see the relief on his face to be in his own space again. And the siblings too, seem to be more balanced and back their usual selves. Happiness!

Today's post is an introduction to Autumn layering, featuring the essential white shirt (always a staple in any wardrobe) paired with the parka, also seeing a comeback this season. The statement patterned Chuck Taylors, finishes off the laid back casual look.

Outfit details:

Gap White shirt
Woolworths parka (old)

The Script OOTN

Dear Lovely readers,

Another week, even more hectic and a sick kid to contend with, and while Fridays don’t usually mean  a relaxed weekend for a mum, I’m glad it’s here!
This month I’m really looking forward to the Michael Buble concert, I have always been a huge fan,  I thought I’d share a bit about last months The Script concert.

This was my second time seeing this pop rock band, and I have been moved by their music since “We Cry” hit the airwaves. Since then I have bought every single album and thoroughly enjoy their ballads which reveals their Irish roots. They totally blew my socks off, and there was no better place to be than Golden Circle. Especially when Danny jumped off stage and entered the crowd, but alas, I was a mere arms length from him and couldn’t get any closer :-(

I  have an intense love of music, and change the genre I listen to depending on my mood. It helps calm me down when I’m seething, and so angry I could scream. When I feel down, it can perk me up, and certain songs will bring back memories which are endearing and special and sometimes funny.

Today’s look is my outfit I wore to the concert, comfort being top of mind. I paired a ‘concert’ ZARA t-shirt with Gap skinny jeans and the really funky Zibastyles shoulder chain to add some edge.

Boyfriend jeans OOTD

Hello again readers!

I hope this past week has been a good one, this year has started off really hectic and it doesn’t seem to show any sign of slowing down. It’s unbelievable that we’re at the end of February and I still feel like 2015 has just started.
One thing I do try, and that is to have at least one morning in the week where I take out some time for me. Whether it be a brunch with a friend, shopping and coffee with my sis or a mid week lunch date with hubby.
On this day hubby and I decided to catch lunch and enjoy a bit of the sea air while he was out of the office. Our lives as parents really revolve around the boys, it’s a rare occasion for us to be able to steal time out so we need to try and do it often. Even weekends are reserved for the kids, as teenagers they have very busy social lives, sport engagements and dad or mum has to be on stand by. I have even considered joining the corporate world again…. and then realised it would mean the return of my migraines, sleep deprivation and health issues. And I would still be doing everything I am now, including balancing my career (this does not appeal to me at ALL!)

The theme of my weekday outfits is usually comfort first, and I try to make an effort to ‘dress up’ most days and not lounge in sweats. Make up is usually not on my list, unless I am meeting someone, when I put in the extra effort with mascara and lipstick. Boyfriend jeans is a staple in my wardrobe and is perfect for comfort and modesty, whilst not looking sloppy. I have paired it with a t-shirt, and thrown a linen blazer into the mix to pull the look together. A pair of pointy pumps completes the outfit.

Asos linen blazer
Scarf from Superbalist

Charming nautical stripes

Hi lovely readers,

I’m getting into a slow start for 2015, but I have been so busy with guests, personal issues and visiting family that I have had little time for anything else.
This post has been in draft for a while, since it was a tribute post to all the lovely friends I have made through my blogging journey. It’s amazing that I have encountered such warm, open hearted individuals who bring sunshine, laughs and new experiences to my life. I am truly grateful.

Late last year, a few of these beautiful souls gathered at a picturesque little spot, Queen of Tarts, in Observatory to celebrate Leana’s (Hipstyler, Pretty & Ginger) birthday. It was such a darling, pretty little bistro, Amina (The All Seeing Lens) and I decided to do an impromptu photo shoot, directed by Naeema (The Jam Jar). It was so much fun, we literally took over the place, giggling and laughing which resulted in very few fashion blog worthy photos… these I think need to be more serious? Amina is really a breath of fresh air and , so I love having her take photos, and Naeema, the perfect director and perfectionist (but doesn’t like photographing humans despite her awesome photographic talent!). I really love how the pictures came out after all the shots we had to retake:-D

Amina has done a post from the photographer’s perspective, read all about it here.

My outfit for the morning included paring a vintage blazer, from Vintage in the City, with a skinny jeans and my latest favourite lace up ZARA heels.

Enjoy the photos!
