Year End Denim OOTD

Welcome readers,

It’s no secret that I have already been in serious holiday mode this week. With it being my anniversary and schools closing, there was plenty of reason to celebrate. The weather has been absolutely gorgeous and our kids surely have a promising four weeks of relaxation ahead.
This post marks my sign off from the blog for a well deserved break, I leave for Malaysia and Bali on Sunday for some girl time out.
Even though I had the most amazing time at the Twelve Apostles this week, it’s insane that the moment I stepped back into my home, I got right back onto the crazy hamster wheel of mommy life. Immediately, the commitments, dental appointments, meetings, collecting reports and driving to and fro began. So needless to say I am eager for a proper break, without all the crazy schedules, one can call it my leave from being in a demanding mompreneur career ! Hubby takes over for a bit, and will manage the home front in my absence and work will resume in the new year.

I am therefore taking leave from work, mommy duties, blog posts and putting up my feet on a tropical beach, with some added shopping for good measure. When I return, I will be refreshed, missing my family like crazy and ready to step back into my mommy role. I think it is essential for any stay at home mum to have some well deserved time out. Whether it is a short weekend break to a local spa or resort, to a ’girls night out’, or just an afternoon of coffee and shopping. It is essential to remember the woman, the person behind the wife and mom. With it being school holidays, it’s the perfect opportunity for moms to take a short time out, as there are less commitments to drive kids around for.
This has really been an amazing week, I am grateful for so many things and I was made to feel so loved and special by all the guys in my life.
Thank you and Algamdulilah.
I wish the same for all of you, and remember, you can make yourself feel special too!
And as I say my final word regarding my last OOTD for 2015, I would like to wish all readers and their families a wonderful festive season. Have a great time if you’re going on holiday and stay safe.

Today’s OOTD features A Sense Of Style Sleeveless long coat, denim shirt and boyfriend jeans with the all essential sneakers. I thought the silver sneakers would bring a little bit of a festive feel.

Have a great festive season beauties!

An ode to our 20 years…

Hello readers,

Today’s post is dedicated to a very special person, my best friend and partner, someone who has been a part of my life for more than half my life ♥️
 This is for you…

Twenty years ago our separate lives joined to become one.
Bright eyed, we turned our faces to the sun and the horizon,
And set off on the path of the unknown.
Our only aspiration sharing our lives, interests
And building a promising future.
We set off with the unfettered enthusiasm of youth,
And without the prescence of worldly cynism.

And we plodded along, making our way,
Finding ourselves, celebrating and sharing every milestone;
The two of us against the world,
Building from scratch and demolishing what no longer worked.
Along the way,
We have weathered so many storms,
Side by side.
We stood tall, and navigated our way over hurdles;
And through turbulent hurricanes.
Against the odds, we showed the naysayers,
Our youth and naivite helping us,
That standing united was always the answer.
Swimming in a sea of jaded adults,
 We introduced our new family,
Barely out of adolescence ourselves.

We nurtured these little beings,
Kept our focus inward, oblivious of what others were doing.
Staying true to our connection,
We managed to make it through those early parenting years.
We emerged to find our charges grown into adolescents,
Not far from where we were when we first set out.
We emerged on the other side,
To find that twenty years had passed.
Glorious, and at times not so much.
But Always filled with Love,
Filled with understanding, unwavering support,
And Mutual ambition to make a success of our journey.

So here we are, twenty years later;
A bit wiser and greying at the temples.
And upon reflection I realise,
That I wouldn’t change a thing,
I wouldn’t change a day
Of these precious 7,305 days we spent together.
Love you always…

My decision, my judgement, my promise still stands.

"Make You Feel My Love"

When the rain is blowing in your face,
And the whole world is on your case,
I could offer you a warm embrace
To make you feel my love.

When the evening shadows and the stars appear,
And there is no one there to dry your tears,
I could hold you for a million years
To make you feel my love.

I know you haven't made your mind up yet,
But I will never do you wrong.
I've known it from the moment that we met,
No doubt in my mind where you belong.

I'd go hungry; I'd go black and blue,
And I'd go crawling down the avenue.
No, there's nothing that I wouldn't do
To make you feel my love.

The storms are raging on the rolling sea
And on the highway of regret.
The winds of change are blowing wild and free,
You ain't seen nothing like me yet.

I could make you happy, make your dreams come true.
Nothing that I wouldn't do.
Go to the ends of the Earth for you,
To make you feel my love
To make you feel my love”

Forever yours,
RuBe xoxo

Metallic December OOTD

Hello December!
The first week of December has arrived, Cape Town goes into holiday mode and tourists fill our popular hotspots. But before the locals enter relax mode, we need to endure awards ceremonies, year end parties and wrapping up on the business front.
I am so grateful that my sons have all performed really well, and received awards in their respective areas. They work really hard during the year - and I drive them around like a rushed chauffeur - so it is really rewarding to see their pride when accepting their awards, or sharing their accomplishments.
This week has raised the debate of not having any awards ceremonies, to empathise with kids who have strengths in areas beside sports and academic, and how it makes them feel for not receiving any recognition. In the foundation phase all kids are rewarded for their respective strengths and includes non academic and non sport awards. Whilst I agree with this in principle, I also think that academic and sport awards have a place in society. It creates the habit of striving for excellence, it motivates all kids to appreciate hard work and aspire to be an award recipient.

As parents we have to ensure that our kids are well adjusted and understand the dynamics of society from an early age. And whether they excel in sports and academics or not, we are tasked with the responsibility of ensuring that they are happy being themselves and able to harness their relative strengths. We are tasked with the responsibility of ensuring that our kids can deal with the disappointment of not receiving the recognition at school and that they understand that it no way is a reflection on them or their strengths. We cannot place the responsibility on the school to teach them about themselves, just as we cannot expect the greater society to make adjustments to change things for them - the reality is it will not happen. The aim is to raise adults who are happy being themselves, happy and able to function in a society that is not always forgiving.

We live in a reward based society, at work those who perform receive accolades in the form of financial remuneration or promotions. In sport, top performers are rewarded for excellent performance. That will always be the way of the world, and as adults we would hopefully choose to work in a field about which we are passionate. This will ensure reward in the chosen area of strength, but the principle of working hard and not expecting things to just land in your lap remains.

“Work hard and become a leader,
Be lazy and become a slave” - Proverb

Empowering Women & an OOTD

Welcome readers,

Three weeks and counting! I’m really excited for my trip now, as documents are being finalised and I feel as if I’m squeezing the last ounces of productivity out of my brain. I think that’s normal, kind of a way of my brain getting ready to go into relax mode (which it hasn’t for a whole year..)

I’ve had another good productive week, seeing clients, running the home, taxi to kids and I even had the chance to connect with some amazing friends at yesterdays Pomegranate Lifestyle breakfast. What I find the most enjoyable and worthwhile about these events is the opportunity to network and catch up with friends at the same time. The guests are always inspirational and when I left I really felt  uplifted, I felt as if I had renewed motivation for all my plans ahead. As a woman, entrepeneur, mom and friend it gets crazy to find the time to connect all these roles which is something these mornings do for me.
The message is always to empower women, to provide opportunities for business and at the same time have a little bit of down time. I have personally felt the amazing connections made at these breakfasts and now call some of these beautiful souls friends. They inspire positive intellectual dialogue whilst offering their wealth of knowledge and experience to those who need it. I truly believe that when one is open, when you are authentic and just happy in your own skin - your interactions with everyone else is so much more meaningful.
Just concentrate on you, being you without judging others for doing the same. Everyone is unique, and has the right to be uniquely them in a world where society wants everyone to fit into a mould. I was once again reminded of this at yesterdays breakfast, and it always rings true. There is no time for gossip, backbiting and envy in a space where everyone is confident being themselves, with no judgement on others for their choices and behaviours.
Let’s rather spread love and acceptance, instead of hate and intolerance.
The world is already too full of it.

And onto today’s outfit post: I have paired a light linen longer length tunic (from last year) polka dot slim jeans and one of my favourite Zara sandals. Aside from the neckpiece, this entire outfit is from last season and still releveant. I will once again recommend, buying good quality classic pieces will lead to a wardrobe where pieces rarely date.
Happy smart, mindful shopping!

PS: today is Black Friday - so if there are any pieces you have lying in a wishlist, check them out now to see if they’re on sale!

Boyfriend & Lace OOTD

Hello there lovelies!

I am so glad to see the end of this super stressful week! Exams has taken over and everyone is highly strung, luckily the kids still have music practice and club soccer to work off that nervous energy. I believe that physical exercise is still essential during this tense time, it helps to calm my babies and bring them back on an even keel. They are then able to pick up the books and resume the studies - these essential breaks are even scheduled in their study time tables.
What I have found is that they also need me to be around, I may not interact with them but they somehow feel more grounded if I’m there in case they need assistance with a problem or something they need clarified. This basically means that most of my work meetings need to happen before they finish school each day, and that my work day has suddenly become so much shorter. However, I realise that this won’t be forever and one of the reasons I decided to leave the corporate world was to  be there for the kids, so I shall  continue on my journey taking it a step at a time.
The realisation that things happen when they are meant to has never hit me as hard as it did this week. While I was, at times, lamenting the lack of time I have for work, things just kind of worked out. Unexpected opportunities open up and the path is illuminated a little more, so you can navigate to the next step. All you need to do is be real, be authentic, be you and focus on you and your path - all the rest is just noise.
Just Be You
Today’s outfit features a lace top from Kapsule Online Boutique (last season but repeated this year) and my favourite iridescent Vince Camuto heels. Spring has not decided to stay and we’ve had some mixed weather days - typically Cape Town! I also managed to find this fringe Rebecca Minkhoff bag (which I have been coveting since seeing it abroad) from a fellow shopper and friend. It was one of those pieces that haunted me - you know the saying: “Nothing haunts you like the things you didn't buy”.
So it now no longer haunts me and instead adorns me :-D

Vince Camuto heels
Rebecca Minkhoff bag
Ray Ban Sunglasses from Sunglass Hut
Raphaella Booz leather studded cuff
Hermes belt purchased abroad
