Sequinned Valentines

Hi beautiful readers,

Valentines Days is long gone, chocolates eaten and the flowers have wilted. We don’t usually make a big fuss about Valentines, and usually get a token gift as a symbol of love. To me, its important to take the time to make each other feel special, every day.

I suppose it’s a bit cheesy, but sometimes cheesy feels good. So it came as a surprise when I was informed that my darling hubby had made a reservation at Baia, V&A Waterfront. A late dinner for two after a hectic day at work was just what the doctor ordered. As usual, the restuarant didn’t disappoint, with it’s intimate ambience and absolutely divine food. It turned out to be a really good evening, as unexpected as it may have been.

My outift choice for the evening included a sequinned skirt I had picked up on my Dubai trip. I have seen sequins in everything lately, evening wear, casual wear and sports luxe. Needless to say, this bling princess had to get he hands on several sequnined pieces! I’ve already posted about a sequinned top in a prior post (here) displaying my absolute obsession with this sparkly trend.

By the looks of the runway shows recently sparkles are here to stay for at least another season. That’s a huge yay from this Bling Queen :-D

Nine West red sole platforms

All Mommied Up

Hey there lovely readers!

I hope the week and heatwave has been bearable… thank goodness it’s started to cool down.

This look is from one of the many award evenings I’ve had to attend, trying to look the part of serious mommy.

I’ve been trying really hard to don the headscarf on a permanent basis, and feel like I’m getting the hang of it. My difficulty lies in the fact that I need a simple, fuss free style that I will feel comfortable with. I had no idea it was so complicated, I like the way some women seem to wrap the doek with no difficulty at all, and here I am taking longer to wrap the scarf than to put an entire outfit together!

I am tenacious, and will find that comfort zone soon. This turban actually didn’t take that long, but alas didn’t stay put for as long as I wanted!

My outfit:

ZARA blazer
Studio W for Woolworths Maxi
Nine West heels
Trenery Bag
Honey Bracelet
Old Bead necklace
Lovisa Earrings

An ode to my Valentine

This post is rather delayed, but since it’s Valentine’s Day I thought it the perfect time to share our anniversary celebrations and spread a little love…

The clebrations were secret and the only details hubby shared was that I needed to be comfortable, and to not wear the highest heels, and to be ready early morning. It was school holidays and the boys were rather bummed at being left behind, feeling a bit excluded from our plans.

To my great delight, he had planned a scenic helicopter trip, followed by a super relaxing massage at the Amani Spa at the Radisson, finished off with lunch at my favourite restaurant Tobago’s.

The helicopter trip was an item on my bucket list, one which we both just didn’t have the time to get to, so I was really impressed he chose this to celebrate our 18 years of marriage. It was spectacular, a bit windy of course, but nonetheless absolutely breathtaking. I know I always say this, but I love my city, the vibes, the sights and the culture.

It’s such a special thing to be able to celebrate 18 years of marriage, its become so common to hear of divorce that it makes me thankful everyday for what we share. It comes with challenges definitely, but that’s what its about, dealing with misunderstandings and knowing that your desire to be together outweighs all the other little things which can be classified as unimportant noise.

And now for some necessary corny sentiments (it is Valentine’s Day afterall!)

For you, my Valentine:

“Thank You Mr Right, for being my best friend & confidant,
My sounding board, companion and co-driver along this path of life,
For being a part of the tumultuous journey of raising three young men,
For keeping me sane in times of insanity,
For being my safety net when I fall down,
And my antidote for the poisons in my life,
It has been an adventure of note, and I pray that there will be many more adventures to come.
Forever forward and upward, together.”

Not forgetting the photos of this most enjoyable day!

RAIN Africa’s Sole

I don’t usually do reviews, but ever since I have been exposed to RAIN products, I have become an avid fan (and thus needed to share it). Needless to say, when we were presented with a voucher in our CTBlogger Meet goodie bag for a treatment, I was really excited!

While shopping in Cavendish Square last week, I walked past their store and noticed the sign saying walk in treatments available. Say Whaaat? That was the best news ever, as I’m not really good at scheduling treatments in advance and just want it when I want it. Twenty minutes later I was led into the Cocoon Room. Aptly named, the room I entered was dimly lit with dark coloured walls, the air filled with jungle background noises and tree branches strategically placed. And in the middle of the room stood the two treatment beds.  I felt like I was really enveloped in the middle of a jungle, the animal sounds and the far off tribal drumming gave it a truly magical feel.

Because I have sleeping difficulties,  I chose the Sole Treatment which is supposedly good for sleep irregularities. This treatment  involves a foot soak, a dusting of foot powder for the pressure point massage, followed by a traditional foot massage. It was absolute bliss! *sigh* I fell asleep somewhere along the way, which is an added bonus for me - some much needed sleep!

I would highly recommend the RAIN spa, their products are amazing and their slogan “created for living” just adds that extra feel good dimension. The pleasant therapist with her calm serene manner, made the experience that much more special. The final touch was the little token item to eat, drink and sniff; not forgetting the take home package.

Apologies for the photo quality, it was taken with my phone in the dimly lit room.

Such a lovely touch to end ’soleful’ experience

Vintage and The City Launch

Hello Lovelies!

Last Friday I attended the launch of the prettiest and delightful store on Long Street, Vintage and The City. Whilst it was possibly one of the hottest days of the year, and I felt like I had melted completely, I managed to shower and get dressed up for the event.

After looking frantically for parking in the bustling Long Street (an almost impossible task on a Friday night), I made my way to the store, passing many party people unwinding at sidewalk cafes. The sights and sounds of Long Street mixed with overwhelming heat reminded me of what I would imagine a scorching New York Friday evening in bohemian Soho would be like.

Upon arrival we were welcomed by the absolutely stunning Natalie Bekker, and enjoyed some  flavoured tea served by the Tea Merchant with the most divine cupcakes by Lady Cupcake. (Setting the scene perfectly for a vintage tea party.)

The store is owned by the charming, Junaid, environmentalist turned vintage store owner, which was aptly named after his favourite series, Sex and the City of course!

We were treated to Nespresso, made by the beautiful Thandie Kupe, who was a breath of fresh air in the stifling heat. The evening ended with a lovely gift box, complete with Rain voucher and products,  Tea Merchant tea and Hello Pretty voucher.

It was really great to meet everyone, and look forward to Junaid and Zahrah’s Vintage Tea Parties in the future. (By then my shopping break would hopefully be over!)

I chose a lightweight vintage inspired maxi dress paired with a pair of last season Madison heels.
