The Monochrome ensemble

Hi Beautiful Readers,

This sudden onset of Winter has also brought along the most disastrous flu bug I have experienced. I’m usually prepared, pumping the kids (actually the entire family) with supplements, making sure they eat healthy and so on and so on… It seems that Winter could not wait for me this year and arrived on my doorstep bearing rain, wind and HAIL! (And the yucky flu bug along with it!)

I really don’t mind Winter, the layers of clothing to hide the evils, the hot drinks and cuddles under the covers… Sigh… It sounds so idyllic, and then I realise that I’m actually the Mum. Which in reality means stolen moments for myself in between the errands, cooking, supervising studies and tutoring! Yes, that sounds more like it… and the former is something I can only aspire to (teehee).

Today’s outfit is a monochrome look I wore when the sun was out, although it was still quite chilly. I pared an embellished sweat top with my slouchy tuxedo pants and threw on a blazer for added warmth. I love colour, and whilst I aimed to do a complete monochrome look, the sunny day inspired me to add the bright heels and olive clutch.

My outfit:

Hilton Weiner Blazer
Forever New Slouchy tuxedo pants
PicknPay embellished sweat top
Heels own import
Makoya Brands clutch
Earrings old
Guess bracelet (old)
Polka Dot scarf (old)

Caio for now,

Hijab Fashion Week SA Day One

Calling all modest fashionistas!

Sunday was the first day of Hijab Fashion Week, and I posted previously in the lead up to the event here.

Timed perfectly with Ramadaan coming up, the event gives all the attendees a chance to browse the designer rails for some Eid outfits, or even just daily outfit pieces. Have a lovely cup of tea and biscuits whilst eyeing the hijab pins and beaded accessories courtesy of Wimsy.

Or just relax on the bespoke designer furniture manufactured by DAG Exclusive Furniture enjoying the atmosphere or having a quiet chat with buddies before the fashion show.

Mushrah Hartley, editor of Modest Muse online magazine was the beautiful MC, keeping the crowd entertained and doing lucky draws and handing out spot prizes.

The models then started strutting down the aisle (rather than a runway), as Mushrah says more of a fashion experience than a fashion show. Ladies were encouraged to touch and feel the fabric, they could see the designs up close and chat to the designers after the show. Overall, it was a very ‘intimate’ kind of fashion show with fashion to suit every modest fashionistas taste.

I’d like to extend a huge thank yo to Abashiya Achilles, from Fabulous in Hijab for being the driving force behind this amazing initiative.

So if you’ve missed out, there will be another show this weekend, head on down to DAG Exclusive Furniture if you need some Eid inspiration or just need to shop - its also perfectly timed to immediately after payday!

Without sharing too much of the designs, you’d need to there this weekend to see the real deal, I thought I’d share some photos of the event to inspire you to support the designers.

What I wore… Winter Whites

Hi Beautiful readers!

This is just a follow on from the blogger meet, specifically a “What I Wore” post.
Saturdays weather dawned drab and dreary, the night before we probably had one of the first hectic Winter storms. One thing I love about the landscape after a crazy storm though is that everything seems so clean and fresh. Like the rain, hail and thunder has just performed a major clean up in nature.

I chose to wear Winter White, a trend that has popped up everywhere and I simply adore it. I’ve seen it in coats, jeans, pants, heels and stunning handbags. Irina posted an outfit with the most beautiful Winter white coat, and I was smitten. Problem is, I am also so smitten with the pink coat and printed coat, that I’ve decided to hold back on purchasing any new coats this Winter. I just want them all!

I generally wear my leather jackets in Winter, and my trench coats have been hibernating in the storage part of the closet, time to revive them I suppose.

I have paired my white jeans with a sequinned (I’ve posted on this sparkly trend previously here and here) Mango sweatshirt which is so cuddly and warm it makes me feel all furry inside :-D Thanks to Shaheeda for the inspiration to go and find this new favourite of mine.
To complete the outfit, I included my statement striped peach Dune heels- which I have been dying to wear!

And a big Hats Off to the trendy structured white handbag- totally gorgeous

Fendi does an impeccable white handbag

My Outfit:

Mango sweatshirt
Woolworths jeans
Dune heels
Forever New necklace
Lovisa Earrings
Honey Statement ring
Bag from Kiss My Heels
Cotton On beanie

Ciao for now,

Our Grey Garnet Blogger Meet

Over the weekend I attended a blogger meet at the  Three Cities Bantry Bay Suite Hotel hosted by Grey Garnet PR. It was such a picturesque drive to Bantry Bay despite the cold and dreary weather conditions. I arrived early, in an attempt to bag a good parking spot, and found Jade and the Grey Garnet guys busy filling our awesome goodie bags with even more great stuff.

We were treated to hand massages by Eternal Child (Thanks Amanda!) whilst mingling with fellow bloggers. The program started with a talk by Margaux Knuppe from Rubybox beauty and I was really intrigued with their story. Having spent so much time in corporate dealing with large businesses, it was a truly inspiring story - having started the business from home, then applying for venture capital to grow to the next level. And finally taking the big leap and partnering with the biggest media house in Africa to expand phenomenally.

There were some great prizes up for grabs, a few of them for the fastest tweeting fingers and a couple of lucky draws. I was fortunate to win a Sorbet body butter and moisturising gloves- super score! The excitement was then followed by a few more speakers, namely Jill Hector, personal stylist and Meagan Duckett, fashion lecturer and blogger.

Chantal Orton from Whipp’d Cream also gave some background to the start of her clothing and design business, and all I could think of was how I wish I had won that gorgeous denim jacket (it featured the all important pleather sleeve afterall!).

The morning ended with some delightful eats in the foyer and bar area and what felt like millions of photos. I unfortunately didn’t get to meet, or manage to grab a photo or even the briefest chat with everyone - I totally admired the amazing display of fashion savvy in the room.

A huge thanks to Grey Garnet for inviting me, and to all the awesome sponsors who filled that fabulous Cotton On shopper.

PS: Stay tuned for my “What I Wore” Post

Isn’t Chantal Orton the most beautiful photobomber?
