Summer Shopping with Madison Boutique and Metalicus

Hey readers, 

Loose silhouettes, and luxe flowing fabrics with beautiful prints have really caught my eye this Summer. It may be the need for modest clothes which are stylish, classic while also being fashionable driving this need. I have been recently exposed to the Metalicus brand whilst shopping at Stuttafords and was  immediately drawn in by a few of their pieces. 

They are also stocked at Madison Boutique, based in Constantia.

My favourites from this collection, which I can actually picture in my closet, are the monochrome tunic, black kimono style cardigan and turquoise relaxed pants. Although there are a lot more to choose from in store and on their site.

Hijab Fashion Week SA Day One

Calling all modest fashionistas!

Sunday was the first day of Hijab Fashion Week, and I posted previously in the lead up to the event here.

Timed perfectly with Ramadaan coming up, the event gives all the attendees a chance to browse the designer rails for some Eid outfits, or even just daily outfit pieces. Have a lovely cup of tea and biscuits whilst eyeing the hijab pins and beaded accessories courtesy of Wimsy.

Or just relax on the bespoke designer furniture manufactured by DAG Exclusive Furniture enjoying the atmosphere or having a quiet chat with buddies before the fashion show.

Mushrah Hartley, editor of Modest Muse online magazine was the beautiful MC, keeping the crowd entertained and doing lucky draws and handing out spot prizes.

The models then started strutting down the aisle (rather than a runway), as Mushrah says more of a fashion experience than a fashion show. Ladies were encouraged to touch and feel the fabric, they could see the designs up close and chat to the designers after the show. Overall, it was a very ‘intimate’ kind of fashion show with fashion to suit every modest fashionistas taste.

I’d like to extend a huge thank yo to Abashiya Achilles, from Fabulous in Hijab for being the driving force behind this amazing initiative. 

So if you’ve missed out, there will be another show this weekend, head on down to DAG Exclusive Furniture if you need some Eid inspiration or just need to shop - its also perfectly timed to immediately after payday!

Without sharing too much of the designs, you’d need to there this weekend to see the real deal, I thought I’d share some photos of the event to inspire you to support the designers.

Calling All Modest Fashionistas!

It is with great excitement that I announce Hijab Fashion Week SA which is happening 1st June and 8th June 2014. If you’re looking for some inspiration, Eid Outfits or just keen to see what our fashion designers have brought you, grab yourself a ticket.

This year will differ slightly as the fashion show is more of a design collaboration between clothing & exclusive interior design.  It will thus be held at DAG Exclusive Furniture (58 Victoria Road, Woodstock).

Welcome Home Mum!

My mom recently embarked on a visit to Mecca and returned on Sunday. In the spirit of this holy month, I thought I'd include a few lines on this  special journey which I hope to take. I'll be patient until  my time comes, Inshallah (God willing).

One performs many of the rituals as is required for Hajj (pilgrimage), and spend your days in prayer in two major mosques in Madinah and Mecca. The time is generally used for introspection, asking forgiveness for sins and repeating many of the actions performed by our last prophet , Muhammad (PBUH). Of course, there's also loads of shopping to be done, usually more abayas (black cloaks), prayer mats, jewellery etc etc.

So the sweet thing with my moms journey this time is that my son, Ihsaan (9), wanted to know each day where she was and what she would see and do.  We would then try to follow her travels from SA, he was really interested in what happens in the Holy Land with such fresh curiosity.

A modest look in Red

Trying to be fashionable and modest can be quite tricky at times, as I have found whilst attempting this balance. The current fashion trends do make it easier, with maxi-dresses, skirts, hi-low shirts, leggings all being bang on trend right now.
It is possible to dress modestly and be fashionable (although not ostentatious) as young women around the world aspire to look and feel beautiful.

I will occasionally try to do some modest fashion posts as well to show some readers that it can be done with style.Whilst my wardrobe does not completely conform, I will do the best with what I have.

My modest look below, shows a Trenery panel dress, with a Guess denim jacket, and red scarf. I love the red accents in this outfit and the panel on the dress is so trendy.

She Zone Fashion Show

I recently attended a fashion show which displayed pieces desgined and manufactured by Shahida Holmes Khan.  Shahida was employed in the retail industry, managing exclusive brands before embarking on her own line, equipping her with the relevant skills.

She Zone was started by Shahida Holmes Khan in July 2012 and is targeted at the Modern Muslim Woman. She has conducted research studying womens body shape, the changes that our bodies goes through and how it makes us feel. And more importantly how it ties in with being a Muslim woman. In response to her client’s demands she started creating modest designs which includes workable basics.

The pieces exude a relaxed, stylish feel for the free spirited woman with inspiration drawn from the latest international catwalk trends. The aim is to make items affordable.

Shahida promotes a classical style of dressing, whilst keeping it modest.

She Zone has two ranges namely: pieces with a "fresh and funky" appeal and pieces with a "pure and classic" appeal.  The items are designed in such a way  that they can be paired in different ways.
