Fearless Faux Fur Coat

Welcome Back readers and a Hello to new readers, 

This has been a short week, but one filled with so many good things and I sincerely hope its been equally rewarding for everyone else. I believe in the power of positive thinking, of dreams and goals; and working to make that a reality. In the spirit of Women's Month, I urge every woman out there to take that inner strength and turn all your sorrows into lessons, step on those obstacles in your life and move into a place where your tomorrows are filled with promise. 

This past weekend I attended the First Lady Affair, an event aimed at empowering women and highlighting the importance of taking time out to care for yourself. As women we are all caretakers and nurturing in various roles, as dutiful and loving daughters, as overloaded mums, caring spouses and hardworking employees and business owners. The message I walked away with was that there are times in life when you are beaten down, and we have all had those experiences, yet we carry on with poise and purpose. And despite our own baggage, we have no idea what the woman next to you on the bus, in front of you in the queue or driving that luxury car is dealing with. So be kind, always and try to reserve judgement - it's actually really therapeutic, to walk through life with this positivity.

Let's be strong women and make a concerted effort to uplift one another instead of adding to those life lessons beating us down.

Today's OOTD features a vintage fur coat, from Human Image, an outfit I put together for a mid week coffee date. I think its so important to dress for yourself, fearlessly, so even though this coat is just glam personified- I decided to make it work for a morning meeting. I paired it with part leather leggings, boots and a long length tunic white shirt (Few and Far Collection) under a knit. Living in Cape Town  means layering to account for season changes in one day. All items except the coat and shirt are recycled from previous seasons, of course!

Autumn layering

Hi lovelies, 

Autumn is here, and with it comes cooler air, comfort meals and fashion layering. I am a summer creature by nature and enjoy the outdoors, the sea air and picnics with the family. We have been lucky to still have some warm weather, but occasionally the odd Autumn day creeps up on you. 

This week has been much better for me, my firstborn is back home and the holidays have been enjoyable with a few birthday celebrations. My world is spinning on an even axis again and I feel more grounded. It’s funny how a missing family member creates such a void in the home and in your daily life, that everything feels off kilter. And whilst he may have had a fantastic time touring Holland and Belgium, one can see the relief on his face to be in his own space again. And the siblings too, seem to be more balanced and back their usual selves. Happiness!

Today's post is an introduction to Autumn layering, featuring the essential white shirt (always a staple in any wardrobe) paired with the parka, also seeing a comeback this season. The statement patterned Chuck Taylors, finishes off the laid back casual look.

Plaid and THAT pop of colour

Hi beautiful readers, 

As we near the end of Ramadaan, I am filled with a wistfulness, knowing full well that life returns to normal pretty soon. The spiritual air will start to fade as the hectic schedules sets in and it will once again be a memory of a beautiful month spent in increased worship and reflecting on all my blessings. I trust all my readers who observe this month have had the opportunity to enjoy and reap the rewards of this auspicious month.

The cold weather also helped, as it fostered the need to stay indoors - also easier to keep the kids from playing their physical sports and rather spend the time in recitation!

Today’s look was from before Ramadaan but also a cold, wet and dreary day. After a few snaps our photo shoot was rained out! 

I have once again worn the leather pants, dressed up this time with some fuschia heels and a blazer.

Modestly Maxed Stripes

Hi Beautiful readers, 

The Ramdaan is more than halfway done, and I am quite wistful at this beautiful time coming to an end. I really love the heightened spiritual awareness, not just my own, but of everyone around me. It’s so beautiful to see all Muslims make an effort to be better, in increased recitation and supplication to our creator. I really feel like I’ve been in a Ramadaan bubble, and having the kids home to share it with has made it so much more rewarding. We have more time for discussion and debate, they can spend more time in worship without the crazy school schedule interfering. 

This last week will be less World Cup focused (which had to fit into their Ramdaan routine hehe) and more on getting ready for school- back to the daily grind indeed!

I have noticed recently that Maxi dresses with sleeves are more easily available, it’s definitely a growing trend, and oh so easy for a modest fashionista. Long sleeved maxis were already in most stores abroad during last year and I have been patiently awaiting it to hit our stores this Winter. However, the cut, style, fabric and print all need to be just right so that you don’t look frumpy. With the right accessories one can make it look trendy and on point. 

Today’s outfit includes a long sleeve striped maxi I bought on a Spree Sale about two months ago. I love a good bargain, and I picked this dress up for a steal. The fabric is great with an elasticated waist, so it has a soft flow and fits well. I paired it with a denim vest and sparkly bronze Country Road pumps.
