Sentimentality and some Animal Print

Hi again readers,

As you may have noticed, my blog has been really quiet. It’s an intentional decision, for my blog has to go on a break too, and so posts will come when they come. Since its December, and kids are winding down and sport is winding down, I thought it a good idea to wind down myself before heading off on holiday.

I feel as if this year has been an exceptionally draining one, and whilst  I took measures to take care of myself, things happen and health issues arose. And thus, I feel deserving of my 10 days uninterrupted break with husby- no kids and hopefully no work mails and calls (for him).

We celebrate our anniversary tomorrow and it has been 19 whirlwind years of friendship, love, occasional fights, new experiences and literally growing up together as a couple. I am so grateful to have spent this time with my best friend, who understands me completely, knows my imperfections and accepts me as I am. What more could I ask for? And the best I can offer in return is exactly the same…..

Marriage is a merger
Of souls, of lives,
To forge new paths
With your partner
By your side,
At your back
Protecting each other from the hurts
of the World.

Thank you, my love, for sharing this rollercoaster journey with me.

This look was worn on a most enjoyable night out. I have paired a lightweight coat with skinnies and sneakers for a casual twist.

PinkTober Animal Print

Hello lovely readers,

October is Breast Cancer awareness month, followed by Movember, and I have heard so many survivor stories and seen so many dedications to loved ones lost. Cancer has touched the lives of almost everyone I know in one way or another. It’s a wake up call to take care of your body, listen to it and, if you feel as if something’s not as it should be, have it checked out! Early detection is the key to survival and beating this disease.

It’s particularly sad, when babies and younger kids are affected, yet they endure it with grace and perseverance. There are so many lessons we can learn from the young. We can emulate their zest for life and living each day as it comes, kids are present in the moment regardless and suffer with impish charm. Let’s take this page from their book and find the joy in every day, and banish the sorrow of terminal illnesses.

Today’s lookpost is a tribute to Pinktober, on this last day of October, representing the summer of every day. In true Cape Town style we have had all four seasons this week and hopefully this summer outfit will prompt Summer to stay.

I’ve paired animal print and stripes in a mid-week casual outfit, my comfortable mum-on-the-go look.

Birthday Animal Print

Hi Lovely readers,

My birthday has come and gone, and I usually choose not to fuss too much about it as my eldest has a birthday a mere three days after mine. After my illness though, hubby decided he would fuss, and he’s such a honey he arranged a few spoils without me needing to lift a finger! One of them was our dinner at Baia at the Waterfront, our all time favourite seafood place.

Since I was still in recovery mode, I have not shot any lookposts recently and this was the first in a long time. This animal print coat (it’s actually a lightweight jacket which is perfect for the in between weather we are experiencing now) has been dying to come out and be worn! Thus a lookpost was born, despite me feeling slightly under the weather at the time.

This jacket is the perfect style and length and fabric to see regular wear in any modest fashionistas closet. I have paired it with a cream boyfriend jeans and my peach suede rose gold toe cap heels.

My outfit:

Coat from Kapsule Online Boutique
Country Road Boyfriend jeans
Mango Black Knit
Stylemology rose gold toe cap heels
Scarf from Bespoke Hijab
MrP necklace
Forever New Sling bag
Aldo statement ring

Eid OOTD

Eid Mubabrak!
or
Blessed Eid!

Eid means celebration, a celebration to mark the end of the month of fasting and the beginning of a new month. In a spiritual sense it means a celebration of a month of spiritual cleansing, of renewed devotion and a new way forward.
This Ramadaan, has been difficult in the sense that the plight of Palestine had become more intense with their suffering and death splashed all over the news and social media. It is hard celebrating this day, knowing that on the other side of the world there are families, dispossesed from their homes and  unable to attend a mosque to perform Eid prayers. Having said this, we are honour bound to celebrate Eid the way we usually do, however being mindful of those less fortunate all over the globe.

I was not too phased about an outfit this year, and close to the end of the fast, Abashiya from Fabulous in Hijab came up with something really up my alley- a red carpet inspired look… And voila and new Eid outfit was mine. She really knows what I like and I was suitably impressed. I was unable to wear it the morning as I usually have too much cooking, hosting and entertaining to do- so I wore it in the afternoon when we did all our visiting and greeting.

I loved the colour combo, which has been on my mind for a while, despite being told by my eldest son its like Snow White’s dress (haha). The ensemble was finished off with an ombre silk scarf, animal print heels and clutch.

I forgot to show off the side pockets, but that was an important feature of my skirt…
