An Nur Streetstyle shoot

Hello again Readers!

It’s been a really short week which means all productivity needs to be squeezed into 3 days…*Sigh* But I’m not complaining as it means a few more ‘late’ mornings for me yay! This mommy business hard work….
About 2 weeks ago I was filmed for An Nur The Light’s street style feature. It was such an honour to be chosen and interviewed; and the day turned out to be unbelievably hot for an Autumn day. As I’ve said previously, I usually decide on the day what to wear so my outfit planning of the previous night was all in vain (as is the norm) and I chose a completely different look and outfit on the morning!
After much deliberation I finally decided on a look that encapsulates my style, classic with a bit of edge. It’s no secret that I love sequins and I own quite a few sequined pieces, I therefore chose this two year old sequined skirt that I picked up on a trip abroad. Denim is also a favourite and I usually add denim for some edge or to dress down an outfit, in this ensemble I tied it at the waist for an effortless laid back feel. Even though these two pieces are both from two seasons ago I still feel happy to wear them, a sign of their timelessness and quality.
My lace up caged heels and a pony hair clutch finish off the look.
Hubby shot this look in true street style fashion after the shoot.

To watch the interview and feature, please keep an eye on my page or social media for details on when the episode will be aired. An Nur, The Light is usually on Saturdays mornings at 11am, on SABC 3. Stay tuned for further details.

The Asymmetrical Sleeveless Coat

Welcome Readers,

It's amazing how quickly life returns to its crazy schedule; with late nights every day this week in school meetings, soccer practices and so forth; we only finish our sit down family dinner after 8:30pm! Our evening meal is the one where we connect with each other, talk about the highs and lows of the day and anything else one of us wants to share. It's a long wait to eat at 7:30ish, and even though some members can eat whilst others are busy, nobody really wants to eat by themselves. So we do the communal meal every night. It has become such an important part of our day as a family and helps keep that special family bond active.

With things being as insane as they are, I have not had the chance to share my discovery of a new boutique, Few and Far Collections, a online boutique which specialises in fashionable modest wear. It caters for a "Woman of Substance" ie "one of substantial or solid character or quality." Now, for anyone following the European Hijabis, this store stocks those classic pieces that can be dressed up or down and is frequently styled by the likes of the popular Hijabi Instagrammers and bloggers. The collections include some really conservative pieces, and since I'm not generally conservative in my style, I embrace the challenge to add that edge to a classic piece. In today's look I am wearing the Sleeveless Asymmetrical Coat, paired with full denim and cheeky heels.
The quality of the pieces are impeccable, and the pricing is reasonable, especially if one considers the fact that they won't date easily. And anyone who has been reading my blog for a while will know that I advocate buying quality classic pieces (investment items) more commonly known as smart shopping. It means buying less, buying good quality and versatile pieces. Feel free to check out Few and Far collections, and you can even visit the showroom if you'd prefer to fit the item first. This may be advisable as their sizes are European based and therefore don't conform to our standard sizing.

Happy shopping and don't forget to checkout the website here. The site is updated constantly with new stock, so keep an eye on it!

An evening OOTD

Hello again readers,

It’s been another two weeks of hectic running around, soccer matches have started and cricket has entered our lives. (World Cup as well as the fact that my youngest has now decided to add cricket to his insanely busy schedule!)

This week I have decided to express my gratitude for things I do have. My 2014 one went out on 1 Jan and I am clearly a bit behind, so here goes..

I am grateful for:
  1. My health, for all the things I am able to do without having to give it a second thought.
  2. My spouse and partner in life, he gets me in a way nobody else does, and accepts me warts and all.
  3. The ability to spend quality time with my kids, and even though they drive me batty, I enjoy every minute of my life with them in it!
  4. Three well adjusted, healthy sons, who test the boundaries every day. I am still immensely proud of them and what husby and I have contributed to tomorrow by raising these young gentlemen.
  5. The year that was 2014 through the challenges, the health scares and the parental trials I have learnt some new lessons and been reminded of old ones I have forgotten.
  6. My extended family, who give true meaning to the saying it takes a village to raise a kid. These young ones learn such important aspects of love, humility and tolerance from family members other than their parents (who they say love them through obligation!)
  7. Special friends, who are there in times of need, understand the distress I have been through recently and stick around despite my failings.
  8. Special time outs with my main squeeze, whether it be as simple as sitting on a blanket in the park chatting and watching the kids… or dressing up for an evening out. These moments are treasured every day!
  9. All the wonderful connections that constantly blossom from the constant interactions I have with new and wonderful people.
  10. And… while material things are not high on the priority list, without them life wouldn’t be possible. I am grateful to have a comfortable home, warmth and other comforts many live without.
I have been blessed with many things and say thanks and offer prayers every single day…. So todays look is one from a cherished night out. Hubby and I attended a formal banquet followed by an opera in celebration of the Design Indaba. I wore a black mesh dress with a lace top underneath finished off with an embellished turban and metallic belt and shoes.

Some scary realisations & Jumpsuit print

Hi Readers,

This has been quite a week, I have come to the realisation that my first born is growing into a young adult. I’ve spent the greater part of the week recovering from the flu, ensuring he goes to physio to heal his ankle (sprained for the 5th time in a year) and taking him to rehab fitness training in an attempt to get him ready for his Holland tour in just over a month. We have been on separate continents before, but he has always been the one at home with family taking care of him. This time, I will be home and he will be abroad - without either parent - which is a first. It means my boy will be thousands of kilometres away playing hockey,  and I won’t be there to watch him… *cue silent sobbing*

As babies they go through separation anxiety, and I now find myself on the verge of it myself. My baby is growing up and going into the big world on his own for the very first time. I know he will have teachers, chaperones and coaches, but he won’t have ME! We have roughly a month to calm me down, and for me to get used to the idea…. Wish me luck!

Today’s lookpost was taken on a scorcher of a day, one where we had to get dressed up for a very fancy dinner.  I was not keen on something stiff so this was the perfect alternative to a dress. It’s no secret that I have been sucked in by the jumpsuit trend, and this one is made of silk, is very loose (thus modest) and the print so pretty. Of course, I paired it with my favourite heels of the moment- I realise I’m going to have to give them a break soon- I’ve been wearing them to death!
