Lessons with a sneaker OOTD

Hi readers,
And so we have come to the end of another week, a whirlwind one in my world, as usual. The ever present responsibility of using everyday to teach your charges lessons, to take the time to engage with them as little people instead of just as children. I particularly enjoy talking to them about their opinions on things happening in the world, using the news as a conversation starter, and it's so refreshing to hear their black and white opinions. Things are either right or wrong, but where does all this innocence go? How does the definite line between right and wrong get blurred? We live in a society where values are constantly being denigrated and scoffed at and morals are being whittled away bit by bit, making it acceptable to succumb to corruption. We can only try to raise the next generation to be socially aware with the expectations to be responsible for ones actions, accepting of consequences.

One of the lessons one has to teach is how to budget, a very important rule in my home is that if you cannot afford to pay cash for something, wait until you can afford it and do without. Credit is not a necessity for little items, reserved for home loans and car purchases. It was very rewarding to see how my eldest managed to budget his hard earned spending money when abroad. He was told, prior to leaving, that he would not be able to work for the rest of the year due to a heavy course load and thus would not earn as much as he did last year. This resulted in him returning home with more than half his Euros, to be saved and spent responsibly for the rest of the year. Lesson well learnt, I think.
To celebrate his acceptance of the lesson, I have worn the t-shirt he graciously bought me whilst on tour in today's lookpost. (To be honest he didn't even buy gifts, with the exception of his dad and I- eish!)

This is a casual look, paired with the oh so comfy sweatpants - one of the best trends for busy moms - sneakers and a denim shirt to pull it all together. This Michael Kors bag has also very quickly become my wear with everything bag. It's very easy to end up with a sloppy look if you opt for these style sweatpants, so it is essential to put it together with more 'tailored' or structured tops for a 'pulled together" look. It's also no secret that I love sneakers, the current trend has brought sneakers into the spotlight to be worn with just about anything. Perfect!

My outfit:
Jay Jays zipped cuff Sweatpants
Denim shirt (old)
t-shirt from Amsterdam
Woolies beanie (shop similar here)
Michael Kors bag
Nike Sneakers

Relaxed New Year

Hey lovelies!

I hope your stormy weekend was a good one preferably spent indoors?

With all the flash flood warnings, and the traffic cautionary mentions it is hard not to spare a thought for the needy and those who do not have shelter in such disastrous weather!

It was a fulfilling weekend for me, as I prepared party packs for the kids attending Muslim School for our Islamic New Year celebrations. It’s a time of reflection, of introspection, and so shortly after our pilgrims returning home, one is still in a very spiritual state of mind.

Hubby and I spent the Sunday afternoon, delivering our Zakaah (obligatory payment made annually under Islamic law on certain kinds of property and used for charitable and religious purposes)  which was such a heartwarming task! At the same time it was heartbreaking as we chose to donate to people we knew, and seeing them so grateful for the little they have, makes it hard at times.

I have tried to continue with charity work, and with this past year experiencing health issues, and concentrating my sabbatical on my family and kids has shifted my focus. This will be a New Year Resloution- to once again resume my acts of charity on a more regular basis.

The look post I have for you today… is my typical week or soccer mom look. Sneakers have now found that special place alongside my coveted heels!

This is an old Trenery dress (probably around 3 years old) paired with Country Road leggings and Guess denim jacket to ward off that unexpected chill.

Colour denim trend

Hey there lovely readers,

Life has returned to the normal humdrum, school runs, soccer runs, lunch box snacks etc etc. The fast is behind us and it is amazing how quickly my family has returned to the normal crazy pace! I miss the tranquility and spirituality though.

Last summer saw the introduction of coloured denims, reminding me fondly of those colour 501 Levi's back in the 90's. I rarely wore them back then as I was still pretty young, and could not keep up with trends very easily as my mom bought my clothes!

I was quite taken by the colour denim trend, and particularly like my neon ones. I managed to grab two neon pairs on the last summer sale early in the year, with the hope that wasnt just a passing fad. Well, it is around for another season, along with patterned denims, ombre denims, metallics and textured jeans.

There are so may varieties to suit all tastes, from bold statement floral denims to subtle patterned denims. (Seen in store at GAP).

I chose to detract from the neon with my oversize ZARA handbag, which I pair with almost everything! Its big and such a statement that it works for most looks :-D

I am wearing:

Denim shirt (old)
Guess T-shirt
Edgars jeans
Stuttafords Sass scarf
Necklace and bracelet by Sass Diva
Silver necklace (Gift from Mecca)
Bag from ZARA
Shoes Zando (last year)

Earrings by Guess

Wearing Fabulous in Hijab

Hello lovelies!

It's been a crazy two weeks with birthdays, Father's Day, and my mum leaving for umrah (visit to Mecca).

So we decided to go really low key for hubby's birthday which coincided with Fathers Day. Of course the kids treated him to his traditional Sunday morning breakfast of coffee and koeksisters (in bed). I love special occasions, as I enjoy buying gifts and seeing the reaction when you give them. The joy on the recipients face is priceless and warms my heart. This is why I plan gifts way in advance, part of the organiser in me, I suppose, and the need for everything to be just right.

He could then choose what he wanted to do for his birthday, and he decided on a lunch at CTFM with us (kids and me). And later, coffee and cake with our siblings and parents at our place. A simple but thoroughly enjoyable day, and because he's always hectically busy at work, it was great for him to just take it easy.

So in the spirit of relaxation, I donned my Fabulous in Hijab maxi with a hint of shimmer and a pair of polka dot Chuck Taylor's.

Last of the summer rays

Living in Cape Town, one has to get used to four seasons in one day.  Well, Autumn is on the way and whist we have some cooler chilly days, the warmer sunny ones creep in occasionally. This past weekend could possibly have been the last of our balmy days.  And although the sun is shining and the air is warm, it's unfortunately not enough to coax me into our freezing sea water. However, we still decided to spend an afternoon on Blouberg dunes , well any excuse for ice-cream right?

The ambience was so relaxed and laid back, unlike the hustle and bustle of Atlantic Seaboard on a Sunday afternoon. It's like a soothing balm for the soul, to just soak up the sun and stare out over the water (not forgetting the awesome view of Table Mountain to add to the relaxation).

Choosing the correct outfit for these unpredictable days is a bit difficult, and I think the best would be to wear some summer basics and layer it to keep out any unexpected chill.

As I'm posting this, its raining cats and dogs, so Winter is here!

I therefore decided to wear my Diligo swallow print maxi dress layered with a cropped denim jacket.
