The Power of Black

 Hello beauties!

and...

A warm welcome to December!

And just like that (!) we have reached the last month of the year, and so the year slowly descends into the best feeling of sun, surf, family and fun. I always love this time of year, with it's longer days, the lack of extra murals to drive to and the simplicity with which I handle each day. By this time of the year, I no longer have the energy to sustain my control freak and find a wonderful sense of freedom without it. After a crazy year, I don't have to work at keeping that control freak under control (and yes it takes work)... as it usually just happens with my energy reserves pretty tapped out by December (without even trying).

Throughout the year I attempt to take some time out to recharge my energy reserves; at times I am successful, and at other times I fail miserably... at times working 8 days straight and then collapsing into a heap of exhaustion. And while this happens, mommy life continues at its usual frenetic pace. I feel as if my kids are growing at a scary rate and this year particularly there have been real big developments. I still feel as if I am catching up- although I doubt my heart ever will!

It is therefore no shock that of late I have been drawn to the colour black, and while it is a summer trend, it also gives protection from external emotional stress (according to some schools of colour psychology). As much as I love wearing the colour black, I will always lift and brighten it with a bright pop. Too much black can often be too depressive and foster a negative environment. It is usually associated with grieving and the unknown, and yet, because black is associated with the end (of something) it also signifies new beginnings.

Black also absorbs negative energy and it is useful to carry something black with you to protect you from harm and negativity when traveling or when going about your usual daily activities outside your home. I find black to be soothing (while also being very slimming ☺☺) and I am drawn to my black hematite bracelets on most days when I need an extra boost of emotional energy.  It is said that black crystals bring power, protection and security. However, I also feel so sophisticated, strong and empowered when wearing this colour. It usually signals a particular mood, when I am more focussed and ready to tackle any challenge.

This OOTD shows a black outfit against the beautiful backdrop of the beautiful Atlantic Seaboard. I paired A Sense of Style ruched skirt with a Michelle Ludek laser cut boxy top with sneakers. This outfit was perfect for a relaxing interlude enjoying the salty sea air. Its another way for me to unwind, recharge and enjoy our beautiful city.

With December upon us, we need to enjoy our beaches before the tourists arrive en mass...

Casual Holiday Fever

Hello again readers,

It’s Friday and the end of another week, taking us closer to holidays.
The Festive Season Fever has hit!
Retails stores, radio stations and television commercials have all invaded our consciousness with Christmas jingles, decorations and gift ideas. Even though I don’t celebrate Christmas, it still signifies the approach of my holiday. Cape Town already seems to be slowing down in preparation for the holidays. The weather has been playing along, and with some of the worlds most beautiful spots around us, one can imagine being on vacation, even for a morning.
I love the sounds, the smells and generally everything about the sea. When I feel like I need to detox my brain a bit, I just need to absorb the energy of the sea for an hour or so - surrounded by sea gulls and salty air. I then feel as if I am able to pick up where I left off and continue downhill toward Holiday town.

But first, exams - study time tables, past question papers and the like will take over our home for a few weeks. I am praying that this time will be easy for my boys (and me) - It really seems to affect me as much as the kids. I am hopeful that they will weather this period and come out at the other end happy that they’ve done the best they could.

In today’s look, I wanted to illustrate the importance of investment pieces, which I’ve spoken about before. This Trenery skirt with pin tucks and summery plaid Aca Joe shirt has been in my wardrobe for ages. They are both really good quality with fabrics that wash well and don’t change shape. This versatile pencil skirt can be worn to the office with a pair of heels, crisp white shirt and an eye catching neckpiece for a work look. I have paired it with sneakers for a casual look, ideal for mid week running around or a quick trip to the beachfront to recharge the batteries.
While investment pieces may be rather pricey, this is made bearable by the fact that they really do last  a couple of years if taken care of.
Food for thought?

Weekend break Hermanus, Windsor Hotel

Hi lovely readers,

With the cold weather upon us after a beautiful respite, I find myself reminiscing on our couples weekend to Hermanus just before the fast. The blogger voucher (From Lauren’s Blogger Meet in January) spurred me into motion to book this getaway, and time passes so quickly that one doesn’t always make the time for mini weekend breaks. It’s also really hard when you have kids who play sport every Saturday, and train 11 months of the year!! Well thank goodness for sisters, my younger sister offered to take the boys off my hands for a full weekend (that’s the best gift ever) and we set off for a weekend of sun, beach and some hopeful whale watching.

The Windsor Hotel is a quaint hotel situated on the beachfront, overlooking the cliffs of Hermanus. It is perfectly situated for a stroll along the cliffs, close to all the restuarants, and you can even do whale watching directly from your bedroom balcony! Such an idyllic setting, perfect for rejuvenating the body, mind and soul, and located just 2 hours outside of Cape Town.

Enjoy the photos ;-D

Let’s start with a selfie :-)

We certainly received a warm welcome to the Windsor Hotel

They have charming antiques scattered all over the hotel

The perfect spot to relax with your book

The only proper whale sighted that weekend

Who doesn’t love strolling through craft markets?

On Marine Square. I could listen to the marimba band for hours.
