Following Destiny to Opulence

Asalaamu Alaykum and Welcome Readers!

My regular readers will know that Ramadaan is a month of renewal for me, on many fronts. I usually start new projects, embark on new educational ventures and really step it up a notch on my personal development and growth. It is therefore so synchronistic to be featuring a fellow eternal scholar and busy entrepeneur in todays post.

I have written about Fadwa Cozyn in the context of her Mobile Therapies business and how she inspired me during her Bucket List Workshop (read that post here), however, this time I am so moved by her passion for opulence, in all forms. The word opulence denotes wealth, richness and luxuriousness, which is embodied by Fadwa, not in the traditional way, but in her warmth, energy and spirit. It is therefore no coincidence that I was drawn to this venture, as I too am a likeminded soul with a penchant for beauty and luxuriousness, which is precisely what her her brand, Opulence, represents.

As a little girl Fadwa envisioned her designs on catwalks across the world, following this dream by enrolling at and graduating from the Elizabeth Galloway Academy Fashion in Stellenbosch. In 2005, whilst assisting her dad in his business, she heard a voice which said she should be a reflexologist. Unsure of what it was, she opened the Yellow Pages, called a number and followed this journey without question. It led her to Durban, Pretoria and right back to Cape Town where she graduated from the Cape Institute for Allied Health Studies. Since 2007, Fadwa has been practising as a qualified Specialised Kinesiologist and offers the following through Mobile Therapies: reflexology, massage therapy and manual lymphatic drainage. She also specialises in the following: life coaching, NLP practitioner, Kinesiology and is a dynamic motivational speaker. She has travelled extensively and has presented workshops abroad including doing physical body work in Turkey & India. Needless to say Fadwa has an extensive list of qualifications in this arena, as well as notable achievements, such as being a regular guest on Voice of the Cape Radio and Channel Islam International.

Fadwa and I connected partly over fashion, with a shared love for silks, leather and unique pieces. She has an innate intelligence for opulent fabrics which she attributes to her royal ancestry and rich heritage. Her roots can be traced back to Java royalty which still runs through her genetic system and referencing. Her paternal great grandfather was a wealthy gentleman who owned vast strawberry fields in Constantia, as well as extensive vineyards while being a prestigious grape exporter. With just a peek into what makes Fadwa tick, is to understand that opulence is in her blood.
And so, I believe the birth of her new business, Opulence is in line with her destiny. A brand which retails unique pieces in limited quantities, manufactured in luxurious silks, leathers, jewel-toned colours and sporting rich embroidery. The feel is a fusion of grandeur and everyday resplendence. Opulence has it's official launch on Sunday, 3rd June at the Peninsula Hotel, 10am-4pm.

In this lookpost I am wearing a 100% silk quilted jacket (reversible side has cotton quilting), a silk printed scarf and black leather clutch, all available from Opulence. This could be a perfect look for Eid, pair the jacket with jeans and sneakers and you're all set for a casual night out. I am a big fan of classic pieces which won't date easily, which is exactly what you'd find at Opulence!

Marsala Eid OOTD

Happy Friday readers!

Every time we get a glimpse of life without winter, like earlier this week, the promise of Spring fills the air, albeit temporarily. We had just such an experience this past weekend, where Eid day dawned bright and fresh, all cleansed from the previous days' constant downpour. The weather was such a blessing, and I had fully intended to bring out the faux fur coat, but really, with the gorgeous sun out I decided against it. I usually don't specifically shop for Eid, as I can generally put something together from my existing wardrobe (the kids are my priority of course!). I pulled this Marsala lace number from the closet (purchased a little before the fast and never worn), and paired it with my favourite sequined glam blazer.
I was happy to have scored some good shoes on the ZARA sale, one of them matched the outfit perfectly, and the scarf is the only particular piece I bought for Eid, a lovely embellished Kashka from Riehana's scarves. It's always important to invest in pieces that can be incorporated into other looks, where they can be dressed up or down, for a glam occasion or even a regular night out.
Classic pieces that won't date easily will transcend many seasons and if the quality is good, it will last long while still looking impeccable.

Overall the day was an enjoyable one, spent in the company of loved ones - an additional blessing one has to be mindful of on this celebration. The feeling of community in the neighbourhood is so special and the kids (particularly my youngest who visited every night with plates of treats) enjoyed the interaction. The teenagers clearly have their own agenda which includes friends and hanging out, so after family time they each headed off to spend some time with their peers... Just a little reminder of their growing independence!

Enjoy the pics... along with some family snaps thrown in.

And onto the family snaps:

The youngest just needs a smile and he's ready, the teens need to 'prepare' for photos!

They have sprouted right past me, I'm no shorty and I'm wearing heels!

Classic Black Glam OOTD

Happy Friday readers!

This week has brought the cold in all its Winter glory, and all the warm coats and boots have surfaced from storage. Time to sort out the closet and donate those unused items, Winter is a time when the homeless and destitute really suffer, so get donating if you haven't yet...

Black is a classic and a basic in everyones closet, it is versatile, glam, slimming and suits all skin tones. In the process of sorting my closet for Winter OOTD's, I am happy to say that almost all my Winter purchases (aside from lower priced trendy pieces) from last season will be wearable into the new season. I generally invest in good quality classic boots, as a result I have several pairs which I am happy to take into this Winter. At the end of Winter last year, when all the stores were selling out their Winter stock to make way for the new Spring/Summer stock, I pounced. All items which are classics and good quality and well priced were dropped into the cart immediately!
I believe in buying good quality pieces that don't date easily and can be carried through several seasons. Those fads and trendy pieces, can then be incorporated with lower priced items which won't break the bank. However, I stick to leather with my Winter Boots, so that a good pair usually lasts a few years, also ensuring that they always look good.

Today's lookpost is comprised entirely of classics that have been in my closet for years; hauled out for a wedding which I clearly didn't need to shop for.

I've paired a black embellished crossover dress (around 7 years old), with a faux fur stole bought two years ago (before faux fur made the trend list), a glittery lace shawl worn as a scarf, and a pair of nude heels which have been in my closet for more than 4 years.....  The underskirt is a DIY job, and can be made longer for a more covered modest look. Some serious oldies out for a spin. The only recent purchase is the crystal neck piece bought on sale at Lovisa a few weeks back.

Outfit details:
Black dress (bought so long ago I can't remember the store)
Faux fur stole from Long Street
Gifted Lace scarf
Bag bought abroad few years back
Nine West nude heels
Lovisa crystal neckpiece
Falke stockings
Underskirt and top DIY
