Moments which make me grateful

I was really inspred by  Leana’s post My favourite moments in 2013 to do one on the positive moments of 2013. It’s rewarding to look back at positives instead of focussing on the negatives which cannot be changed now anyway!

As I am writing this from hot and humid Dubai, I feel so grateful for the opportunity to explore the world. To experience other countries and cultures and more so to be able to share it with my kids. (Despite having hurt both feet at NYE celebrations and just generally feeling bleh!)

My gratitude list:

The Gold Souk in Dubai

  1. First on my list is definitely my other half and my marriage.  I am so blessed to have my partner in life support me in every way. He is my best friend, confidante and the one I turn to for cheering up.
  2. My kids, healthy, bouncy and busy.... And I wouldn't have it any other way. Whilst they drive me crazy most of the time, I'm grateful to have them in my life. They bring a new dimension and purpose to life.
  3. Having the opportunity to extend my sabbatical to a more permanent arrangement, giving me the opportunity it focus on new paths and concentrate on my health.
  4. Having learnt a new skill- I have always been intrigued by fashion and decided to learn to sew and the art of pattern making. Wow! I have a newfound respect for those in the fashion industry!
  5. Being able to travel with my kids and broaden their horizons.
  6. Starting a mini madresa at my home for my kids and their friends. They have grown in spirituality this year and have made me really proud. It's also amazing to be able to participate in this aspect of their lives.
  7. Being able to assist at every Grade 3 excursion this year and spend well deserved time with my youngest son.
  8. Enjoying the month of Ramadan in a different way to when I was working. I had more time for reflection, recitation and my own spirituality instead of frantically rushing around each evening!
  9. Grateful that as siblings we were able to send my mom and younger brother on Umrah to Mecca earlier this year... Making her dream of visiting the Holy Land come true was so rewarding.
  10. I have met so many wonderful fellow bloggers, readers and interesting people through my blogging journey. This blog has allowed me to express myself and know that there are people out there who share my passion without thinking it shallow.
  11. My extended family, parents and siblings are last, but definitely not least on my list. Without them life would not be the same and it's special for my kids to enjoy the kind of love and security that they bring.

Thank you to all my readers and fellow bloggers for all the support, lovely comments and interactions. It makes me feel honoured to know that someone finds my blog interesting!

Ciao for now,

RuBe xoxo

Turban in training

Dear beautiful readers,

Todays lookpost is one of my modest looks I am still experimenting with, as mentioned in a previous post- it turns out to be quite a challenge but that doesn’t stop me from persisting. My idea is to find a style that I’m comfortable with, and most importantly, something I can throw together quickly! As a mum, I cannot spend a lot of time primping before going out, so a quick and easy routine is what I need.
This includes, beauty, makeup and even deciding what to wear - I literally need to be able to grab and go! (heehee). I thought it would be an easy journey, to just transition into - but alas it is not! I am so inspired by so many other hijabi and modest women in the world and they’re oh so stylish too.
I continue on my journey….

I’ve paired my monochrome maxi with a ZARA shirt and a trusty t-shirt.

Outfit details:

ZARA denim shirt
Mango Hollywood t-shirt
Nakau Collections skirt
Country Road leggings
Country Road leather pumps
Scarfstop Scarf
Trenery bag
Earrings old
Swarovski Necklace old

Ciao for now,

Chilled cat print

Hello lovely readers!

December is upon us and Christmas is all over the stores, this means the holiday season has begun. Before I can embark on any fun filled activities with my now unoccupied kids, I needed to get through numerous school obligations. The week passed in a blur of awards ceremonies, school and sports,  as was evident on my Instagram feed this weekend.  And a very important occasion, Ameer (my middle child) had his junior dance on Friday! It’s aways a time of mixed emotions, as it means another year has passed and your babies are moving on in the world. They’ve grown another year, learned so many things and developed even more of their individual personalities.

Parenthood, the journey of nurturing and growing young souls and sending them out into the world. At times, it is richly rewarding, at others, maddeningly frustrating! To those starting out on this rollercoaster, savour and enjoy every moment, every hug and every achievement.

Todays lookpost is a chilled casual look with an oversized T-shirt and Converse sneakers.

My baby, Ameer styled by Mum!

Just before leaving home…

I’m wearing:

Sass T-shirt (Zando)
ZARA slim jeans
Converse sneakers
Lovisa Earrings
Sass Diva (Zuri) Midi Rings
Necklace gifted
Rare and fleeting Yemaya mani :-)

Ciao for now,

RuBe xoxo

Statement stripes

Hey lovelies!!

A couple of weeks ago, I had the honour of meeting Sandy Nene (http://www.sandynene.com) whilst he was on a tour around the country for an Autotrader project. He is such a fun, full of energy type of guy- I wish I had more time to chat with him. The morning turned out to be rather fun, an interview about my relationship with my car (?!) and I met two really interesting Cape Town bloggers - (Dumisane and Asanda from ctvibes)

The morning was a bundle of unexpected events… enjoy the pics and my outfit choice.

I chose a monochrome undertone, with my ZARA blazer and colourful statement necklace for the morning.
