Kirstenbosch Crown Jewels Centenary Collection unveiled

I recently attended the celebration of Kirstenbosch’s first centenary at their beautiful botanical site. It is always a pleasure visiting this indescribable paradise set against the slopes of Table Mountain. It is one of my favourite places in Cape Town, and without fail, every visit is memorable.

The morning was a tribute to the past 100 years of promotion, conservation and appreciation of biodiversity in South Africa. I am sure it takes great organisation and dedication from SANBI (South African National Biodiversity Institute) to maintain the grandeur that is Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens, evidenced by the fact that it is regarded as one of the most diverse gardens in the world.

'Kirstenbosch lies in the heart of the Cape Floristic Region, also known as the Cape Floral Kingdom. In 2004 the Cape Floristic Region, including Kirstenbosch, was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site – another first for Kirstenbosch. It is the first botanic garden in the world to be included within a natural World Heritage Site.

In true splendour, which mirrors the beauty of the gardens, the morning was concluded with the unveiling of the magnificent Kirstenbosch Crown Jewels Centenary Collection. A bespoke jewellery collection was commissioned to assist with fund raising, a collection fit for royalty - which will be auctioned on 17 June 2014 at the Old Mutual Conference Centre, Kirstenbosch. All jewellery pieces may be viewed at the Cape Grace Hotel from 26 May 2014.

And the SHOWSTOPPER…..

These pieces are such a gilded feast for the eyes, a true reflection of our beautiful gem Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens.

A must see is the newly built Tree Canopy Walkway which offers a birds eye view of the gardens. Read more here.

Lola's on Long Street| workwear lookpost

During my last weeks at work I popped into a darling little restuarant bistro, Lola's, on Long Street for an informal meeting and also grabbed a bite to eat. Whilst sitting there I soaked up the fusion of sounds and smells emanating from the delis and coffee shops. There is such a vibey atmosphere, and with the authentic mix of diverse cultures, you literally feel as if you’re sitting in a remote vacation spot! It's also a proud moment when one sees our public transport system in full force (the scheduled Myciti buses); still in it's infancy; yet efficient enough to rank on par with those of developed countries. I am passionate about South Africa and my heart fills with pride when we experience these little successes as a country, making us more marketable to the rest of the world. Go SA!
Long Street is a popular destination for locals and tourists alike

Myciti buses run regularly down Long Street as part of the new public transport system

Lola's boast a simple menu, but enough to cater for most tastes. I thoroughly enjoyed the grilled vegetable salad, as well as a few cups of red cappuccino, my non-caffeine fix.

Whilst I can’t remember what I wore, here’s another lookpost on workwear. I really enjoy floral print, and since Spring and the warmer weather was nowhere to be seen, I decided to bring some colour to a dreary, Spring day.
