Our rock turns 50!!!

This space has been neglected for a long time, but it remains my place of memories, of inspiration and more importantly honouring my loved ones.

Today I honour my biggest support and rock...

He's made 50 trips around the sun, a half a century of memories and 27 of them with me at his side.  I am eternally grateful to my Creator for placing such a kind, considerate and loving person on my path.

Happy birthday Mr Awesum!!

Officially, we have spent more than half your life together, building a life, which later included our three most precious additions. We have built businesses, experienced pain, failures, successes, adventured, learnt and grown together. We're both no longer the same persons we were back then; we have fought internal battles, external struggles, and picked each other up when the other has fallen down.

On this golden anniversary of your birth, we celebrate your life, the highs, the achievements, the laughs, the special moments and every single triumph of your existence. You've played such a huge role in my own growth, you have inspired me and shown me how to embrace and focus on the lighter side of life .

We have made the most treasured memories, and nurtured cherished traditions within our little family unit. I pray that we will be blessed with many more, and that the years ahead are as joyful and filled with love and respect. You have a wonderful sense of humour, are instantly liked by many, while also quietly sheltering your sensitive and empathetic side. You are a precious gift we have been blessed with 💕Algamdulilah 💕

Mr B, as you are affectionately known...

You are my beam of light on the dark roads

I sometimes find myself traversing,

You bring your whole heart, ready to serve,

Ready to sacrifice and celebrate others.

Your place on this earth has been Divinely Ordained

Beside me,

Brilliantly guiding our unit,

Through stormy seas, and navigating us

onto calmer, lighter waters.

I am in awe of your intrinsic instinct

To always put others first,

To always want to do good in this world.

You are a refreshing cool presence in a world

Thats burning with injustice,

Thats being engulfed by flames of ambition.

And yet, you remain the humble, unassuming,

Gentle leader steering our young crew members through

along on their missions placed on their voyages.

I am honoured to be your First Mate

on this expedition called LIFE.

May your path be lit with as much delight which you bring to ours.

We love you unconditionally, "to infinity and beyond"

Happy birthday, my love.

27 years of togetherness

Birthday Boy!!

This is Us...22 years later ❤️

Hello Readers,

Today is very special, it marks the day I embarked on life with a forever teammate. Celebrating 22 years of partnership, of mutual growth, of learning and ever present support. Two years ago we marked the 20 year milestone, (read that post here) and it feels as if we have weathered another 10 years since then!

It's apt to say weathered, as things have not been easy these past two years for either one of us in our respective individual capacities, and yet it has also brought us the best realisations of ourselves. It has made us both stronger, clear on the way forward and what really matters. And with every personal challenge, you were there for me and I for you. The reciprocal encouragement, a boost for our low times, was paramount to our own personal growth. You give selflessly, take care of me, make me laugh and boost me up when things get a bit much.
My darling hubby, you are an angel on earth, who has helped me heal, who has challenged me while filling my days with joy and love; standing by my side when things go awry ❤️.

This past year alone has been a whirlwind ride, we have experienced the most life altering journey together, spent 6 weeks alone in a hotel room, and emerged stronger, with a sense of rejuvenation. This #journeyofalifetime has captivated us and ensnared us in its majesty and has resulted in a bond with renewed grace. And while 2017 has been a year filled with intensity, for every single member of our family, we have grown closer with deeper understanding. There have been so many fundamental changes during this year, which started with our family vacation at the beginning of this year. Being away from everything familiar back home, making the most amazing memories, and spending every single day together for 2 weeks, was a catalyst to the extraordinary events of this year.

There is no magic formula to staying together for this amount of time, but I do believe that mutual respect, selfless love and acceptance of our vulnerability has played a huge role for us. I am eternally grateful that we crossed paths, I believe we were meant to be soul mates, bringing out the best in each other, each day ✨

For my life-partner, Ghaalid.,

All of our moments are cherished experiences,
We've travelled side by side on this journey,
Forever evolving, always changing,
At times being forced to reroute our navigation.
There have been moments of discord,
Moments of disharmony,
Which ultimately brought us closer,
Helped us grow and move forward on a new path.

We've meandered along this route,
Welcomed three little angels as passengers,
As co-travellers on our route.
They have brought new direction,
Taught us new methods and compelled us to grow.
These little men have brought about a change,
Coerced new views and acceptance of new ways.

And all along, we have held fast to each other,
When we lost our way,
When we climbed over difficult obstacles,
And when we had to tear down walls enroute.
All along we stayed true to our pact,
We co-steered to our destination.
Our route has been filled with the most unimaginable highs,
Joy in creating incredible memories,
Unconditional love in guiding our three little gifts,
Into wholesome young men.

I thank you, my co-pilot, for staying the course with me,
I thank you for making this voyage the most profound it could ever be.
I thank you for trusting me with all of you,
And for embracing all of me.
Happy Anniversary my love!

Collecting our documents for our #journeyofalifetime was an outstanding moment for us this year
Our three treasures, present day
Roll back to 2010!
Our Euro vacation was the catalyst for a magical year!

Smile big, Laugh often, Never take this life for Granted

Because every picture tells a story :-D

It was one of the hardest things we had to do... leaving these 3 for 7 weeks!

Live simple, Laugh often, Love deeply
Another momentous moment for us this year, after our first Umrah
Our return home was such a joyous event!

Find Your Tribe. Love them Hard.

Happy Anniversary!!!

Caio for now,
RuBe xoxo

My Little Leader turns 16!

Ameer,

My special little person, who came into this world to teach me that life will always be exciting, interesting and never dull. You have brought such a lively energy to our home, with your infectious enthusiasm for life and mischievous tendencies. At times, that middle child syndrome rears its head, and we are reminded that in that body lives a soft heart and sensitive soul. I treasure the moment you were born, demanding to be fed at once and in that instant our bond was formed. In your special way you taught me to be patient, you challenge me constantly and have no problem with finding your path. In fact, throughout your brief life you have mastered everything you attempt with excellence, with the conviction and confidence that you can do anything.

First birthday party
My only son who enjoyed their first birthday party to the fullest!
Always a happy baby

Beach bum from a young age (age 7)
Dressed up as Merlin (Age 8)
Always climbing and adventuring (Age 8)
Age 13
First day of high school (Age 14)
The die hard Barca supporter (2014)
Learning to ride the jetski, 5 mins later you off and ski-ing away (2015)
Helping out and managing the guest list at my high tea(2015)
                                                      Eid 2014
Eid 2014 (Already towering over both of us at age 14)
Doesn’t matter where you are, you’ll find a ball (2015)
U-15 top goal scorer for your club
My precious bundle of joy,
Who filled our lives with sunshine,
And injected that element of fun.
From three to four, my limits were tested,
I felt overwhelmed by responsibility,
And at the same time overwhelmed with love.
For this new little person, who brought a dynamic,
Energetic force into our home.

You breezed through infancy,
With no demands, the easiest charge I’ve had.
Introduced challenges I had never contemplated,
Always pushing, testing the waters,
Always setting new boundaries
In that amazing daring manner.

Your journey into teenage years
held daily trials.
As you provoked and elicited
Occasional feelings of exasperation.
I know and I feel
That on your journey through life
 You will fearlessly conquer adversities.
You will carve your place in this world,
 With precision, excellence and determination.

I am proud to call this leader, this warrior
My son and my second born.
Evidence of mutual love,
We anticipate joy and adventures,
Happiness and love ahead for you.

We are so proud of the young man you have grown into, safe in the knowledge that we have set good foundations. I believe that your sunny disposition will bring you happiness and cheer everyday and may you always be mindful of your place in society, your duty to those less fortunate and continue to lead as a worthy Muslim man.

With lots of love,
Mum & Dad

Official start of my BWB chapter

On Saturday I joined my fellow bloggers at the unassuming Bedouin Cafe & Deli situated in the heart of the artsy lower Woodstock area. I really enjoy strolling around this part of Woodstock, but the Saturday morning traffic is another story!
I sampled labneh (a creamy cheese made with strained yoghurt) for the first time, and simply loved it.   The stuffed peppadews were also absolutely divine and so were the stuffed vine leaves- a perfect mezze platter was served!

All the beautiful ladies, except Cupcake who took the photo
It was my first Bloggers Who Bless (#BWB ladies) get together and I felt like I already knew the ladies seated around the table (even though for some it was our first face-to-face meeting). It is so special to be part of this bunch of women, whose sole aim is to inspire, uplift and motivate each other. I really feel honoured to be included in this forum, and the daily interactions and notes definitely inspire me to do better, and more importantly spread the love :-D

I look forward to many more, and need to make a special mention of Heather De Bruin, Fi Fitzpatrick and Leana Henke who run all the administration for our group and ensure that we are always on track. From the great venues, the buddy system to the always highly appreciated goodie bags! Much love to these beautiful women; and for going the extra mile to bring positivity to each day.
