Today I have a brag post for you, my father-in-law (well Dad actually) has just published a book. Last year he was awarded his Doctorate, at the age of 65, and needless to say we are all immensely proud of him. This year he has published a book, on the life of a well renowned Muslim scholar Shaykh Shakier Gamieldien. My dad is an eternal scholar, someone I aspire to be like in his hunger for knowledge and curiosity about life and how things work. He is the patriarch of our family, highly regarded by many and loved by all.
As he said in his radio interview, the research and actual penning of the book was a labour of love, a life long project and dream that culminated in the publication of the book. He explores the life of Shaykh Shakier, with bits of anecdotal inserts to add some background to the account of his life. The book highlights his teaching methodology and how he tries to merge this with religion. The foundation for his teaching methodology is to encourage intellect and rational thinking to substantiate the spiritual beliefs.
I will not go into further detail about the book, as we will be hosting a formal launch at the Al Azhar Mosque in Aspeling Street on 23rd November 2015 at 10:30am.
Entry will be free and books will be on sale for R130.
