Boyfriend jeans OOTD

Hello again readers!

I hope this past week has been a good one, this year has started off really hectic and it doesn’t seem to show any sign of slowing down. It’s unbelievable that we’re at the end of February and I still feel like 2015 has just started.
One thing I do try, and that is to have at least one morning in the week where I take out some time for me. Whether it be a brunch with a friend, shopping and coffee with my sis or a mid week lunch date with hubby.
On this day hubby and I decided to catch lunch and enjoy a bit of the sea air while he was out of the office. Our lives as parents really revolve around the boys, it’s a rare occasion for us to be able to steal time out so we need to try and do it often. Even weekends are reserved for the kids, as teenagers they have very busy social lives, sport engagements and dad or mum has to be on stand by. I have even considered joining the corporate world again…. and then realised it would mean the return of my migraines, sleep deprivation and health issues. And I would still be doing everything I am now, including balancing my career (this does not appeal to me at ALL!)

The theme of my weekday outfits is usually comfort first, and I try to make an effort to ‘dress up’ most days and not lounge in sweats. Make up is usually not on my list, unless I am meeting someone, when I put in the extra effort with mascara and lipstick. Boyfriend jeans is a staple in my wardrobe and is perfect for comfort and modesty, whilst not looking sloppy. I have paired it with a t-shirt, and thrown a linen blazer into the mix to pull the look together. A pair of pointy pumps completes the outfit.

Some scary realisations & Jumpsuit print

Hi Readers,

This has been quite a week, I have come to the realisation that my first born is growing into a young adult. I’ve spent the greater part of the week recovering from the flu, ensuring he goes to physio to heal his ankle (sprained for the 5th time in a year) and taking him to rehab fitness training in an attempt to get him ready for his Holland tour in just over a month. We have been on separate continents before, but he has always been the one at home with family taking care of him. This time, I will be home and he will be abroad - without either parent - which is a first. It means my boy will be thousands of kilometres away playing hockey,  and I won’t be there to watch him… *cue silent sobbing*

As babies they go through separation anxiety, and I now find myself on the verge of it myself. My baby is growing up and going into the big world on his own for the very first time. I know he will have teachers, chaperones and coaches, but he won’t have ME! We have roughly a month to calm me down, and for me to get used to the idea…. Wish me luck!

Today’s lookpost was taken on a scorcher of a day, one where we had to get dressed up for a very fancy dinner.  I was not keen on something stiff so this was the perfect alternative to a dress. It’s no secret that I have been sucked in by the jumpsuit trend, and this one is made of silk, is very loose (thus modest) and the print so pretty. Of course, I paired it with my favourite heels of the moment- I realise I’m going to have to give them a break soon- I’ve been wearing them to death!

Tropical Valentines Print

Hey lovelies!

Hubby & I don’t really go all out for Valentine’s Day, and we just kind of let it happen. We may do small token gestures on the day depending on our hectic parental schedules. To those of you who celebrate, may it be a special day filled with lots of love!

While out shooting this lookpost, I thought it would be fitting to make this my Valentine post. Amina and I took a drive to Ardene Gardens (more commonly known as Claremont Gardens) which is where my wedding photos were taken over 19 years ago!! Sheesh, has it really been that long ago?

I have really taken to tropical prints this season, and beautiful colours as they make me feel happy and summery. This skirt is made of lightweight chiffon, which gives the floating effect, perfectly fitting for a scorcher as the day turned out to be.

I can’t let Valentines Day pass me by without expressing some form of cheesy sentiment for my Valentine.

‘My dear Valentine,
It seems like yesterday that you glanced into my eyes,
Like yesterday that you swept me off my feet.
Your gentle manner and constant romance,
Your sense of humour and grace,
Is the reason we’ve weathered many seasons together.
Happy valentines day, my love.”

And we will probably pass the baton of celebrating V-day over to the teens in the household (heaven help us!)

There was no way I could pose in this tree with heels!
Who doesn’t have wedding photos taken by the infamous tree?

And lets don those heels now!

Zando maxi skirt
Country Road belt

Dubai Summer Holiday

Hi readers,
I have had such a crazy schedule and to add to the crazy my internet connectivity decided to make things a little more interesting by refusing to work!
I’ve finally nailed down my Dubai post and decided that I would do the two cities separately since they were such different experiences.

I had been looking so forward to this break, 2014 was another insanely busy year and it’s also the first time in years that husby and I are able to take an extended break without the kids. I love travelling with my kids, but sometimes there are things (like shopping) I’d like to do and they’re not always keen.
Another really big bonus was that an old friend had assisted us with accommodation, ie booking etc and it made all the difference! We stayed at the absolutely gorgeous Jumeirah Beach Hotel (JBH), directly opposite the Burj Al Arab and with kilometres of uninterrupted private beaches. Since it was my second trip in a year to Dubai, I was sure that 5 days would be enough… Well I think we could have stayed longer all thanks to the awesomeness that was JBH!
Taken from our bedroom- simply beautiful
We had an amazing view overlooking the Burj Al Arab, the sunsets in the distance behind the Burj Al Arab, the luxury yachts docked in the basin and endless sea. We were instantly in chilled holiday mode when we arrived in our room, and took some time to rest up before meeting up with my pal for dinner.

Out first evening Dubai Mall selfie

Some of our dining highlights included Urbano restaurant in the Souk Al Bahar in the Dubai Mall. A darling Italian restaurant overlooking the dancing fountains. And secondly, at Pierchic  based in Al Qasr, Jumeirah, a high end  Mediterranean seafood restaurant. This is such a special place as the atmosphere is romantic, our company good and of course the food, excellent.

A nice touch added to our evening meal at Pier Chic

We were lucky enough to enjoy pre-dinner drinks at Skyview Bar, Burj Al Arab, with the most breathtaking views. And the hotel itself? Well that was just pure opulence in pure Dubai fashion - it is afterall a 7-star rated hotel!

Enough about the food, although I have to note that all out cuisine throughout the holiday differed greatly from when we travel with the boys. We also tried some scuba diving at the hotel, visited Ski Dubai and took a leisurely ride on the Abra (much like a gondola) along the canals in Al Qasr and Madinat.
The souks, didn’t disappoint either and I loved the authentic feel of the Madinat Souk. For a more contemporary shopping experience, we frequented Mall of the Emirates (mainly because of its proximity to JBH) and Dubai Mall… And boy did we enjoy the ‘part’ sales which is actually the sales before the festival starts. It was good enough for me!

Caught snoozing (haha) on the metro station

From top left: Hubby shopping at Bloomingdales, these Gucci sneakers stole my heart; Harvey Nichols and the gorgeousness of SJP heels; I love seeing the different window displays, my Isabel Marant sneakers in the Shoe Level District.

Outdoor meals are the best… and with this view = perfection!
